Last year, Compass Memorial Healthcare (CMH) generated 435.2 jobs that added $66.6 million to Iowa County’s economy, according to the latest study by the Iowa Hospital Association. A total of 4.7% of jobs in Iowa County come from Compass Memorial; this accounts for all employers and employees within Iowa County. Additionally, 7.5% of wages provided within Iowa County come from Compass Memorial, contributing $32 million in total wages in 2024. Lastly, Compass Memorial’s expenditures account for 6.9% of Iowa County’s gross domestic product.
The economic impact on income and employment is accounted for by the Iowa Hospital Association and are applied to multipliers, which derives the estimated impact of Iowa Hospitals on the state economy, along with the impact of community benefit services provided and number of people served.
Data and multipliers were obtained from the American Hospital Association (AHA) Annual Survey, and the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) Regional Input-Output Modeling System (RIMS II), which allow for analysis statewide, hospital-specific, and county-level data. Additional data sources used in the provided calculations include the Iowa Department of Revenue and Finance, the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
In addition to the economic impact Compass Memorial has on Iowa County, we also largely contribute through donations and volunteering. To join the Compass Memorial team, you must commit to volunteering your time and being an active member in our communities. It is simply the Compass way and a standard of behavior for our team members.
In 2024, Compass Memorial contributed $1.4 million to our communities in Iowa County. In addition to this, CMH team members also attended and/or hosted 7,600 volunteer opportunities in our communities.
“These benefits aren’t just numbers. They represent real programs and services that improve lives across Iowa. Many of these initiatives wouldn’t exist without the leadership and commitment of our hospitals and health systems.”
Chris Mitchell, IHA President and CEO
